My Experiments with Truth!! (not Bapu's)

I will be sharing some of "my" experiments with truth here. Though the title was inspired by Bapu's (Mahatama Gandhi) autobiography, which I am reading these days, I believe that each one of us, has faced moments of truth. The incident has not to be a news-breaking one. It can be as simple as coming across an innocent but dirty and half-naked kid, in the streets of Delhi in chilly winter nights. What do you do when you come across such a plight? Has anyone of you offered that kid any kind of help? By help, I don’t mean giving a Re 1 coin. What I mean is, did you try to realize and do your bit for helpless and homeless kids?

If truth be told, I didnt. But after this incident, something dawned on me. I began to think and the more I though, the more I brought. Brought what???? I brought more compassion and will, to devote some of my time, to do "my" bit and if possible help my near and dear ones, realize the same.

How to do this? "Where there is a Will, There is a Way". So most importantly, one should be really willing to make a difference. Once the will is there, you can easily approach a local NGO, depending on the field you have a passion for. It can be a NGO which work towards Education of under-privileged kids, or Health Sector (there are specific fields like Tobacco , AIDS, etc etc.)
I can assure you that you will be most welcome at these NGOs. And once you start working in that organization, you will come to know that these organizations are always in need of more volunteers and of course dough. Many of these organizations are running on shoe-string budgets. So, any kind of help makes a lot of difference.

How can one contribute? Each one of us has our strong and weak traits. Some of us are natural teachers, some are good at managing, some are born leaders and some are excellent speakers. So one can be helpful in his own way. You can start a fund-raising campaign; you can negotiate a new place for opening up a school/hostel. Possibilities are just endless.

How it helps you? This is one thing which one should put on back burner if he really wants to give back to the society. Because community service demands and requires a selfless service. But heres the catch. Though one might not get something tangible, and feelings like self-satisfaction and an internal peace, though may sound like taken from a Bollywood flick :), but thats something you would definitely feel. Apart from this, coming to how it makes you survive better in your academic and professional life? Most of the time we have to work in teams, here you will get to know how to do that effectively. You will get to lead a campaign. You might end up speaking in front of a large crowd or may be even media. And when you come across such a situation, you will definitely be doing it with utmost sincerity Because, you know that there is a whole Cause on stake. This way you will be improving yourself in the most unexpected yet a way which lays the way for many to a better life.

I hope you will read this and will spend some time thinking about it.

Note: If you want to know that how can you get involved in community service or any other query, feel free to mail me or leave a message in response to this blog and your email id. I will get back to you.

Cheersssss :)

    Hi Vikram
First of all thanks for spending few minutes on my blog. Secondly I am reading this book now, but was involved with social work since a long time. :) Anyways, dear this is not something you should do to write on a piece of paper to enhance your career. Get involved and you will realize that you are making a whole life by your little effort. You will feel needed in a way which you have never felt before. Try to do that and you will then not give a damn whether it makes a difference on your CV, because you will be a better man with lots of newly acquired skills :) Just give it a shot.

    Take Care....
